Deacon's Ministry

The purpose of the Deacon’s Ministry is to serve the Lord and His Church by assisting the Pastor in meeting the spiritual and physical needs of the Church.  Deacons are appointed and ordained by the Pastor.  They assist by caring for the poor, sick, the preparation and administration of the Ordinances; service of the Communion and Baptism; and in ministering to the spiritual interest of families in the Church and community.  The office of deacon is usually traced to the first church at Jerusalem.  Seven men were chosen by the church to assist the apostles.  The deacons truly were servants of the church, and they are to be that today.  They were men of proved character and spiritual interest (Acts 6:3-7; 1 Tim. 3:8-13).  The deacons have a major contribution to make in strengthening the spiritual ministry of the church.  There were seven deacons in the first church but the number should be according to the needs of the church.  In most churches the pastor and deacons meet together regularly to pray and plan concerning the work of the church.  In Mark 10:45, Jesus said, “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
